The key to CUET preparation is a strong NCERT foundation for your chosen domain subjects, regular practice of the General Test (aptitude, reasoning, GK), and timed mock tests for speed and accuracy. CUET is largely NCERT-based and MCQ-based, so mastering NCERT plus timed practice covers most of it.
Start with NCERT. For your domain subjects (the subjects your target courses need), the Class 12 NCERT is the core. Read it thoroughly and solve MCQs from it, because most questions stay close to NCERT.
Do not ignore the General Test. Many students focus only on domain subjects and lose easy marks on the General Test, which covers basic maths, reasoning, current affairs and general knowledge. Give it regular practice.
Prepare alongside your boards. CUET and the board syllabus overlap heavily (both NCERT-based), so board study builds your CUET base. Once boards finish, switch fully into MCQ and mock-test mode.
Example: A Class 12 student in Lucknow targeting Delhi University read NCERT for her domain subjects, solved daily MCQs, and added thirty minutes of General Test practice each day. The General Test marks ended up lifting her overall score.
Take timed mock tests. CUET is computer-based and time-pressured, so practise full mocks to build speed, accuracy and exam-day comfort, and analyse every mistake.
One practical tip: Choose your subjects and target universities early, then prepare only the domain subjects those courses require, plus the General Test. Do not over-prepare subjects you will not use, because focus wins.
