To become a software engineer in India you need strong coding and problem solving skills, which you can build through a degree like BTech, BCA or BSc Computer Science, or even through self study, because in tech your skills matter far more than your exact degree.
The common path is a BTech in Computer Science through JEE or a state exam, which gives a strong foundation and good campus placements. But BCA, BSc Computer Science, and even non computer degrees followed by serious self learning also lead into the field successfully.
What actually gets you hired is your ability to code and build things. Learn a programming language well, understand data structures and algorithms, and build real projects. Employers care about what you can do, and a strong portfolio often speaks louder than marks.
